The TCK Experience

Taking on the World, One Country at a Time

TCK stands for Third Culture Kid. These are people who have grown up in cultures different from their parents – many TCKs have lived in at least four different countries and speak at least two languages.

In the globalization of our economy, the TCK populations is rapidly increasing. It is important to be educated on what your child, friend, or classmate has experienced as a TCK. Knowledge is a path to understanding so follow along as we explore inside the mind of a TCK.

My Experiences as a TCK

Find out more about my experiences as a TCK by reading my collection of poems. They are multilingual, written in both English and Wolofal, but don’t worry, there are translations. Have a discussion below in the comment section to share your stories and learn more from others!

Understanding & Love: Hand in Hand

The sad reality of humanity is that we typically do not empathize with or have any love in our hearts for people whom we do not understand. That is why the saying, “Try walking in their shoes for a mile,” is so well known. We often have to listen to someone’s story in order to find a place in our hearts for them. This is part of the reason I believe this project is so important and I hope you do too!

Why Should You Care?

1. Globalized World

As transporation becomes more accessable and neccessary, more children are growing up as TCKs. Whether or not you are already apart of that community in some way, the likelyhood that it will be one day is high.

2. Community

Empathy and understanding are vital to a healthy community. It is my hope that through this project I will be able to bring some more of those things into this world.

Where are you from?

We want to hear your story. Share your life experiences and tell us where you’re from; Where were you born? Where did you live the longest? Which place did you enjoy most? Which place was really difficult for you? And where do you someday hope to live?
